Julia Kleiter, Soprano


The 2011/12 schedule of German soprano Julia Kleiter includes Mahler VIII. under Gianandrea Noseda in Turin and Rimini, ‘Sophie’ (“Der Rosenkavalier”) in Berlin, ‘Pamina’ (“Die Zauberflöte”) in Munich and at the Salzburg Festival, her Lyric Opera of Chicago debut in the part of ‘Almirena’ (“Rinaldo”), ‘Zdenka’ (“Arabella”) in Paris, Beethoven’s c major mass in Berlin conducted by Nikolaus Harnoncourt , Mozart’s “Requiem” in Salzburg as well as several song recitals.
Future plans include Haydn’s “Nelson-Messe” and Bach’s “Matthäus-Passion” in Munich, her first ‘Donna Elvria’ in a new production “Don Giovanni” in Zurich, Schumann’s “Das Paradies und die Peri” in Zurich, a new production “Die Zauberflöte” in Paris.

Julia Kleiter made her operatic debut at Opéra-Bastille in Paris as ‚Pamina‘ in Bob Wilson’s production “Die Zauberflöte“ conducted by Jiri Kout in 2004.
2005 she sang concert performances “Daphne“ on tour conducted by Semyon Bychkov, ‘Pamina‘ in new productions “Die Zauberflöte“ in Paris and Madrid conducted by Marc Minkowski, ‘Papagena‘ ( “Die Zauberflöte“) conducted by Claudio Abbado in Ferrara, Baden-Baden and Modena, ‘Xenia‘ (“Boris Godunov“) in Florence conducted by Semyon Bychkov and made her debut as ‚Giunia‘ („Lucio Silla“ by Johann Christian Bach) conducted by Theodor Guschlbauer with Opernhaus Zürich in Winterthur.
Her debut 2006 in the part of ‘Serpetta’ (“La Finta Giardiniera”) conducted by Nikolaus Harnoncourt in Zurich was followed by two other debuts: 'Susanna' (“Le Nozze di Figaro”) in Verona and Reggio Emilia and ‘Celia’ (“Lucio Silla” by Mozart) conducted by Tamas Netopil at the Teatro la Fenice in Venice and at the Salzburg Festival, where she was also heard in “Betulia liberata” in concert form conducted by Christopher Poppen. At the Edinburgh International Festival she made her debut in the part of ‘Pamina’ conducted by Claudio Abbado.
2007 she sang, among others, in Zurich ‘Pamina’ conducted by Nikolaus Harnoncourt, her first ‘Sophie’ (“Der Rosenkavalier”) and her first ‘Zdenka’ (“Arabella”) conducted by Franz Welser-Möst and in Florence ‘Amor’ (“Orfeo ed Euridice”) in concert conducted by Riccardo Muti.
2008 were on her program: “Orfeo ed Euridice” conducted by Thomas Hengelbrock in Paris, her debut as ‘Marzelline’ (“Fidelio”) conducted by Claudio Abbado in Reggio Emilia, Madrid and Baden-Baden as well as “Acis and Galathea” in concert at Göttingen Händel Festival (including cd recording), her debut in the part of ‘Ilia’ (“Idomeneo”) at Styriarte Graz conducted by Nikolaus Harnoncourt and a new production “Fidelio” in Paris conducted by Sylvain Cambreling.

With song recitals she was heard 2006 at the prestigious Lucerne Festival, 2007 at the Vienna Musikverein and in Salzburg. Together with Christoph Prégardien she sang “Das italienische Liederbuch” in several German cities as well as in Antwerp, in 2008 she made her debut at the Schubertaide Schwarzenberg in a recital with Christoph Prégardien.

Julia Kleiter has recorded Strauss’ “Daphne” conducted by Semyon Bychkov, “Die Zauberflöte” (‘Papagena’) and Pergolesi’s “Salve Regina” conducted by Claudio Abbado, Mozart’s “Requiem” conducted by Ralf Otto, Haydn’s “Schöpfung conducted by René Jacobs and Wolf’s “Italienisches Liederbuch” together with Christoph Prégardien and Hilko Dumno. On dvd are available Mozart’s “La finta giardiniera”, “Die Zauberflöte” (‘Pamina’) and “Arabella” (‘Zdenka’) from Zurich as well as “Lucio Silla” and “Betulia liberata” from the 2006 Salzburg Festival.

Born in Limburg, Germany, Julia Kleiter studied with Prof. William Workmann in Hamburg and with Prof. Klesie Kelly-Moog in Cologne.
